Graduate Student Enrollment in Political Science

Here’s a chart showing graduate enrollment in political science programs in degree-granting institutions from Fall 1997 through Fall 2009. As you can see, interest in political science graduate programs has grown steadily over the past 15 years. Over 40,000 students are working towards Master’s or Doctor’s degrees in political science in America right now. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimated there were only about 6,000 “political scientist” jobs nation-wide in 2010, so many poli sci graduates will have to find work in related fields.
